The account of the widow in 2 Kings 4:1-7 demonstrated her simple faith in obeying the command of the Lord and reaping unexpected results.

Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Heb 11:1). Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead (James 2:17). Indeed the widow hoped for deliverance from losing her sons and by faith she obeyed Elisha’s words to collect empty vessels (2 Kings 4:3). Elisha asked her “...what do you have in the house?” and she replied “....nothing in this house but a jar of oil”. What was little and worthless in her eyes at that time, was the exact thing the Lord used to gain her wealth to pay her debts and have an overflow of abundance.

What do you have in your life that in your mind is of little worth, value and no use? Indeed a jar of oil by itself was of no use, but submitted to God in an act of obedience became the very medium for the widow’s deliverance.

I encourage you today to submit every area of your life to the Lord, your talents, gifts, resources and time that in your eyes may be small and insignificant. I guarantee that your act of faith in submission to the Lord, will reap benefits unexpected.

Prayer

Lord nothing is too small in Your hands. Show me what in my life You want surrendered to You, that with Your supernatural move, provides the unexpected abundance that only a God like You can give.
