Several years ago, as I was travelling with a motorcade, we stopped by a church that had an open car park for a brief break. As we stopped, I felt to set myself aside and have some quiet commune with God. I walked towards the church and noticed a graveyard behind the church. I gazed at all of the tombstones and quietly prayed ‘Talk to me Lord’.

Immediately the eternity of our lives spent with God came to a vivid reality. When I am alive, I am with Him and when I die, I am with Him. There is no end to my commune with Him and death has no hold. ‘For if we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s’ (Romans 14:8).

What a glorious truth! It is for this truth that God paid a sacrifice! For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, that He might be Lord of both the dead and the living (Romans 14:9). Because of Christ’s death and resurrection we can rejoice that we have an eternal hope and eternal life with the Creator of all the heavens and earth!

I encourage us to come to know this One who paid the ultimate sacrifice, who allowed us to have forever commune with Him. Death had no power over Him and it will neither have a hold on us! Let us open our hearts to receive what He has done and accept the eternal life given.

Prayer

Lord, open our eyes that we may see Your glorious truths, that we may see what it is You have done for us. Let us truly understand the sacrifice You made and what it means for our lives. Let us choose to have sweet commune with You Lord and let us walk with You all of our days. In Jesus name. Amen.
