Because of Him You Are

“The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, They have done abominable works, There is none who does good. The Lord looks down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there are any who understand, who seek God. They have all turned aside, They have together become corrupt; There is none who does good, No, not one” (Ps 14:1-3). Years ago when I was in my late teens or early 20s, I remember looking at ants making their way across the floor. As I looked at these ants, I thought to myself 'I can squish you just like that if I wanted to and your lives will be ended'. I then thought again ‘imagine if these ants started reviling against me, scoffing at me, saying I didn’t exist and cursing me?’.....How ridiculous that would be for these little tiny, tiny ants - didn’t they know I had the power to simply place my finger on them. Yet, it was because of this very power that I chose not to take their reviling to heart. On the contrary I allowed them to live, even if they continued with their cursing.

Of course the immediate parallel came to mind of how proud and arrogant we as humans can be. Punching our fists at the heavens, saying there is no God, cursing and reviling His name. Oh that He has been so merciful to us and not wiped us clean with one powerful swoop. Sadly we take His extended grace and mercy towards us as His non-existence. The fool has said in his heart there is no God, but our mere existence on this earth demonstrates that there is. It is because of Him that we are.

My encouragement to you is not to find yourself in a position where you are wielding your tiny fists in the air at an omniscient God and cursing His existence. Know that He is and know that He is God. Sometimes the frustrations of life can become overwhelming, but friends let that not distract you from the reality that God exists. He not only exists, but is more than willing to make Himself real within your life. Invite Him in.

Prayer

Father I repent if ever I doubted your existence, if ever I acted proudly, choosing not to believe Your omnipresence and choosing to be caught up with the affairs of this life. I thank You for Your mercy. I thank You for Your grace. You are good and I am nothing without You. Make Yourself known to me, make Yourself real. I invite You into my life in Jesus precious name. Amen.
